2021 – New Year message from Prof. Dariusz Wójcik, FinGeo Chair

New Year message from Prof. Dariusz Wójcik, FinGeo Chair

Dear FinGeo Community!

As we are settling into 2021, with all its uncertainties, I wanted to thank you all for collaboration and contributions in 2020. Despite adversity, FinGeo was active. We had lively fora, AGM and an amazing FinTech workshop. Dozens of new members joined. The website has been enriched with information on members’ projects, a recommended reading list, and was busy with job and vacancy announcements. A revised COST Network application has been submitted. Another dissertation prize was adjudicated and awarded. I am sure I am forgetting other important things that happened.

Thinking of 2021, we have put together an exciting program for the FinGeo Virtual Seminar Series in February-March, with more rounds planned for the rest of the year, supported by our collaboration with the Regional Studies Association (http://www.fingeo.net/coming-up-in-2021-fingeo-virtual-seminar-series/). For the middle of the year we are planning the second FinGeo School for early career scholars, also in collaboration with the RSA. And as always, we are keen on receiving your submissions for our Working Paper Series and hear about any ideas you may have for our future activities.

The world at large is certainly facing an unprecedented challenge. While we have never been so isolated, we need a global community more than ever before. I certainly hope that throughout 2021, FinGeo may contribute a little bit to a sense of global community in our own worlds.

On behalf of the Executive Committee, all the very best wishes for your and our 2021!

Darek
